These are the buildings, landscape and ambient effects that i will use for my 3d max and design methods unit.

Video game textures
For my research on game textures i will start with minecraft.
For a game that uses very simplistic graphic style it has very detailed textures and sprites. I know that this game isn't the penultimate pinnacle of graphical fidelity but it is in it's deliberate aesthetical design which contains it charm and appeal. Also the blocks in the game allow for straight forward and easy re-texturing process which can create modding possibilities.
Skyrim
Finally i will show Bethesda's latest instalment in the Elder Scrolls Series.
This is a stark contrast to Minecraft's cuboid appearance which many players tend to disregard. This is an extremely detailed game with more diverse art styles and locations despite the game's setting in a frozen northern continent. the graphics and textures really breathe life into the game and its surroundings which i favour more than the variation of brown which many "realistic" shooters and other games tend to use.

Evaluation
In this post i will be evaluating my design methods work. At the start of the unit i had to choose a certain theme and produce the appropriate textures for it. I decided to go with a Viking/Nordic theme which meant i had to create wood textures of varying details and colours. The main reason i chose this theme was because i really like the architectural style, especially in the arched roofs and the decorations on the ends of buildings.
For my theme to progress i went to research Nordic style architecture from photos of the real buildings and some images from certain video games and fiction. I am very pleased with the amount and quality of the images i researched. along with architecture i also researched the wooden textures on the roofs, archways, doors, walls, pillars and so on. i think i could have searched for more textures but due to time constraints i was unable to do that.
After my brainstorming/mind mapping sessions i had to create a mood board to display the theme of my little village. this involved showing the landscape, buildings, architecture, mood/ambient lighting and landscape. I think i should have displayed alot more mock-ups and mind maps but time was a factor i didn't take into consideration. I experimented with photo shop to create varying textures such as water, fire, steel and so forth. i did have some help in the form of internet tutorials on CS5 texture production, with them i produced grass, wood and brick patterns.
Finally the whole group had to do a presentation on our textures we produced and to give feedback accordingly. my presentation received fairly positive feedback but i did have to include more textures to it. To Evaluate on this module i am fairly happy with the outcome especially with the present textures i have made. If i could improve on this i would have followed more texture tutorials to create different materials and i would of added more.
